Enter as few search words as possible, e.g. parish (in the dropdown menu) and date, parish and a name, or only a name. In the second step, choose the appropriate alternative in the produced hit list.
If the search results in too many hits, return to the primary search page and complete with additional search words.
The search makes no difference between CAPITAL and small characters.
If the search is done with words of imprecise spelling, or testing is done with different alternatives, you can enter the character *, the 'wildcard character', as a substitute for 0 or more characters. Several * can be used at the same time.
Examples:
N*ls gives a hit for both Nils and Nels.
*lärare gives hits for e.g. lärare, skollärare and
folkskollärare in the title field.
lärar* gives hits for e.g. lärare and lärarinna.
*lärar* gives hits for e.g. skollärare and lärarinna.
Date is entered in the form of yyyy-mm-dd, like 1800-12-24. You can search for either an exact time or a time interval.
Examples of search for a person born during a certain time unit (only the first date is entered):
1830 gives a hit for all persons born during the year 1830
1830-04 gives a hit for all persons born during April 1830
1830-04-01 gives a hit for all persons born on April 1st 1830.

1st 1825 and May 30th 1826.
1825-05-01 - 1825-05-15 gives a hit for all persons born between
May 1st and May 15th 1825.
